Earn trust and relevant links

Plan legitimate ways for people to discover and reference your work.

Authority building starts with work worth referencing. A useful local resource, an original study, a practical tool, a clear expert explanation, or a genuine partnership can give another website a reason to mention your business.

A backlink is a link from another website. Evaluate its context and purpose, not just a third-party score. A relevant editorial reference can be useful to readers even when the referring website has a modest tool score. No single authority metric guarantees rankings.

Design a credible outreach idea

Imagine a tour operator publishing a carefully maintained accessibility guide for a destination. An appropriate travel organisation may want to share it because it helps its audience. The outreach should explain that value and let the recipient make an independent editorial decision.

Do not buy ranking guarantees or large bundles of links. Google's link-spam policies cover links created primarily to manipulate rankings. Advertising and sponsorship links should be appropriately qualified; a paid promotion should not be disguised as an independent endorsement.

Apply it

  1. Choose one asset your business could contribute credibly.
  2. Describe the audience it helps and what makes it useful.
  3. Identify five relevant organisations or publications.
  4. Draft a short, accurate outreach message explaining the fit.
  5. Define success beyond link quantity: useful referrals, relevant mentions and genuine relationships.

Your deliverable

A one-page asset and outreach plan. Include the proposed resource, evidence required, intended readers, potential contacts and reasons each might care. This exercise prepares a plan; do not send unsolicited bulk messages.

Check your understanding

A provider guarantees rankings through hundreds of purchased links. What should you do?
